This paper describes a suite of programs which have been developed in close collaboration with the appropriate public utilities; electricity supply, water and gas industries. The techniques are based on interactive computing using a graphics terminal for entering and displaying system diagrams, numerical data and output results. These techniques enable engineers to perform sensitivity studies on alternative designs very efficiently, to gain a deeper understanding of system behaviour, to produce improved designs and to achieve better utilisation of existing systems.en_US
