Item Quasi-3D cell-based Animation(The Eurographics Association, 2003) Qi, M.; Willis, P.J.; Peter Hall and Philip WillisWe present a method for image compositing and rendering using 2D geometric shapes or raster images as input primitives, disposed in a 3D environment around which the camera can move. An animation system has been implemented which calculates camera and scene information to render the frames. The key features of this quasi- 3D system are described. Two animations generated by the system are given as examples.Item TRIPS - A Scalable Spatial Sound Library for OpenSG(The Eurographics Association, 2003) Neumann, Tomas; Fünfzig, Christoph; Fellner, Dieter W.; Dirk ReinersWe present a Sound Library that is scalable on several computers and that brings the idea of a self-organized scenegraph to the Sound Library's interface. It supports the implementation of audio features right from the start at a high productivity level for rapid prototypes as well as for professional applications in the immersive domain. The system is built on top of OpenSG12 which offers a high level of functionality for visual applications and research, but does not come with audio support. We show and compare the effort to implement audio in an OpenSG application with and without TRIPS. Today's audio systems only accept raw 3D-coordinates and are limited to run on the same computer and the same operating system than the application runs on. Breaking these constraints could give developersmore freedom and ease to add high-quality spatial sound to their software. Therefore, users benefit from the promising potential OpenSG offers.Item Virtual Rome: a FOSS approach to WEB3D(The Eurographics Association, 2009) Calori, Luigi; Camporesi, Carlo; Pescarin, Sofia; Dieter W. Fellner and Alexei Sourin and Johannes Behr and Krzysztof WalczakThe goal of VirtualRome project (www.virtualrome.it) is to provide a web-based infrastructure for distribution, collection, annotation and sharing over the web of 3D interactive content such as actual and reconstructed landscape. For this project we have developed a framework for the integration of 3D realtime application within web browsers; the full functionality is currently available only for Windows Firefox, limited versions are available for Firefox Linux and Explorer. We present a completely FOSS approach to the web deployment of a 3d database consisting of landscape data at different time and different resolution. Components of a deployment platform will be analyzed and We will outline our approach comparing with other available systems.
