This system has been available in the UK as a beta test product since April 1987 and this paper reports the work done with NeWS at Queen Mary College. A general introduction to NeWS is given, together with some more detailed information and reports of what each author has been doing with the system. We will try to predict the future of NeWS and its main rival (the MIT X-Windows system) and to suggest changes to the NeWS beta product that will be necessary for it to realise its potential.Item First International Symposium on Electronic Art(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988)Item IFPP TC-2 Working Conference on Visual Database Systems(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988)Item Offers to EUROGRAPHICS Members(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988)Item A Prolog Environment for GKS-Based Graphics(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988) Milanese, V.The Prolog language and GK.S are considered in an integrated fashion in order to create a flexible graphics environment. Prolog descriptive properties are devoted to creating hierarchical schemata which can be instantiated on application data, validated against topological constraints, and handled and drawn, at a low level, by GKS primitives.Item Report on the"CGM in the Real World" Workshop (NBS, Wasington)(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988) Carr, R.; Pink, J.Item The Second Eurographics Workshop on Graphics Hardware(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988) Claussen, U.Item Techniques for Animation on Microcomputers(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988) Neelamkavil, F.; Beare, L.Animation is a powerful visualization aid and it has applications not only in the traditional areas of cartoons and fiction movies but also in the study of a wide variety of natural and simulated phenomena. Currently, there is growing interest in the study of animated algorithms and data structures particularly due to the availability of cheaper and more powerful microcomputers. Computer animation may use complex graphics systems and therefore the quality and speed of the graphics display are extremely important. Various techniques for animation on microcomputers are examined and it is shown that Scrolling techniques can be successfully applied for realistic animation in many application areas. Macintosh implementations of"animated algorithms" are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.Item Third Eurographics Workshop on Graphics Hardware(Blackwell Publishing Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1988)
